1.         Registrar's Report: Team packets were given out to all coaches present. We currently have 26 teams (up from 22 in the Fall) and 78 U-6s (up from 60 in the Fall) for a total of 398 players (up from 340 in the Fall). Contents of the team packets were reviewed including the must play 1/2 game rule, MSC 4v4 tournament, and code of conduct.

We currently have space available for the following age groups: U-8 Coed, U-10 Coed, U-12 Coed and U-14 Coed. Go to the web site (http://www.urbanasoccer.org) for more registration details.

2.         Treasurer’s Report: We currently have a balance of approximately $19,000 to pay for equipment, FCYSL fees, referee fees, etc. for Spring 2002.

3.         Vice-President’s Report: No report.

4.         Secretary’s Report: Position open.

5.         Coaches Education: No 'F', 'E' or 'D' courses are currently listed in our area.

For those interested, MSYSA sponsors International Weeks in the summer. National level coaches from Holland, Brazil and Ireland should be there this year.

Check www.msysa.org for more details and more courses.

Coaches Night - the next Coaches Night will be Thursday February 21, 2002 at 7:30 at the Cracked Claw. We will be discussing how to deal with problem players, parents, referees and opposing coaches.

There will be no Coaches Night in March - next one will be Thursday April 4. Topic will be planning for games, game warm-ups, strategies, etc.

All coaches are encouraged to continue their soccer education with these valuable courses. The Association reimburses all coaching course costs. Also, remember to take a look at the local library - it has some very good books and videos available.

If you have any of the videos given out at the October coaches meeting, please get them back to David when you get a chance so that we can distribute them to other coaches.

6.         Field Maintenance: We will re-seed the penalty boxes on the Upper Field the beginning of March to give the seed time to grow before games start in April. David Clark of Clark Lawn Services is looking into this. We will also need to fine grade and seed the area where the big hill used to be.

7.         Big Hill Update: The big hill finally came done on Saturday 2/16. Many thanks to Bob Hajjar for organizing the big event and for Frederick Contractors (Tom Mooney) and R.B. Stine Excavating for actually doing all of the work for free. Great job!

8.         Newsletter Update: No report.

9.         Indoor Soccer: No report.

10.     Bylaws Committee: The proposed bylaws were presented and amended as necessary. They were then approved by unanimous vote.

11.     Participation Awards: We held a discussion as to what to get the players for participation awards. Everyone still wants to get trophies for the younger age groups (U6 and U8). There were various ideas for U10 and older - footbags (i.e., hacky sacks), banners, patches, pins, etc. If you have a suggestion, please email it to alselwyn@yahoo.com. Budgeted cost is $5 per player. We will continue this discussion and finalize at the March meeting.

12.     Middletown 4v4 Tournament: The Middletown 4v4 Tournament will be held 3/16 and 3/17. Each coach has been given an application. The Association will pick up the entry fees for all USA teams. Registration deadline is 3/8.

13.     D.C. United/Washington Freedom Tickets: We have acquired 144 tickets to any 2002 D.C. United game (excluding doubleheaders with the National Teams but including doubleheaders with the Freedom). 100 of the tickets will be set aside for the May 18 DC United/Washington Freedom doubleheader. Tickets are $13 (regular price is $22). The remaining tickets are available for any other DC United game. Just contact David Ward via email (david.ward@acterna.com) and request the number of tickets you want.

14.     Urbana District Park: The Master Plan Committee has chosen a final plan (some tweaks are still needed) that includes 3 fields (1 large soccer, 1 small soccer and 1 football/lacrosse) and 3 softball/baseball fields. Other amenities include a community center building, fishing pier, basketball courts, horseshoes, volleyball, 5 pavilions, restrooms, paved and unpaved trails, etc. We had to give up one of our fields to make room for everything, but when complete, it will be a really nice park. Master plan will be finalized in March and presented to the County Commissioners and Park Planning Committee in April.

15.     Volunteer Appreciation Dinner: We have set a tentative date of Saturday 3/23 at 6 PM for our volunteer appreciation dinner at Paisano's in Rockville. David will contact Jimmy Azat to verify the date. Head coaches and their significant other as well as all Association volunteers (and their significant other) are invited. Others will be invited based on their work on behalf of the Association.

16.     Injury Reports: We discussed having injury/incident reports to document substantial events that occur during practices and games. David will investigate getting incident report templates and get them to all of the coaches. The goal is to document these incidents as soon as possible in case that information is needed later on.

17.     MSYSA Workshop: MSYSA Workshop will be held on March 10 at Towson Center. Applications were given to coaches at the meeting. Cost is $25 for adults and $12 for youth ($30/$15 at the door). The workshop provides coaching seminars and skill games as well as a chance to meet many of the local and area soccer vendors.

18.     New Business: We spent some time discussing getting game balls for home games. In Fall 2002, we will purchase 9 nice game balls (3 of each size) for use at home games at Urbana Park and UES.

The merchandise order for jackets, pants and bags has been submitted and should be ready for pick up March 1. It looks like that's the only order we will make this spring. A small number of extra jackets and bags were ordered and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Scrunchies, sleeve ties, soc-r-locs, caps and t-shirts are in stock and can be purchased at any time.

4v4 goals (10 sets) have arrived. We will make 4 sets available for use at Urbana Park and store the other 6 sets for use in the 4v4 tournament. Coaches can use the 4 sets at any time, but please make sure they find their way back to the shed after you are through with them. We must take very good care of these goals, as they were a very substantial expense to the Association.
