Urbana Soccer Association Monthly Meeting Monday July 15, 2003 Urbana Park Pavilion   Attendees:  David Ward, Karen Selwyn, Al Selwyn, Donna Pike, Brian Downs, Steve Mayberry and Jody Spar     USA President David Ward called the meeting to order at 7:45 pm.   Minutes:  The minutes were approved as submitted by Karen Selwyn and seconded by Brian Downs.   Registrar’s Report:  (Karen Selwyn) Karen reported that there are 349 players registered for the Fall season.  There is a waiting list for U-10 and U-12 coed and girls teams.  Coaches packets will be available for all coaches by July 21, 2003.  Please do not call your players until you receive your coaches packets just incase changes have been made.    Treasurers Report:  (Al Selwyn) Al reported that we have $29,660.00 in the USA Treasury.  There are several large bills coming in.  Uniforms have been purchased as well as new goals.     Vice President’s Report (Andy Keen)  No report.   Secretary’s Report (Donna Pike) Nothing to report.     Coaches Education:  (David Ward)  There will be a NSCAA Coaches Clinic held at Urbana High School.  This clinic will be three separate levels.  The State recommended for all new and U-8 coaches will be a one-day clinic on August 9, 2003 from 9:00am to 2:00pm.  The Regional is recommended for U-10 and above coaches is a two-day clinic on August 8th from 3:00pm to 9:00pm and August 9th from 9:00am to 6:00pm.  The Advanced Regional is a three-day clinic on August 8th from 3:00pm to 9:00pm, August 9th and August 10th from 9:00am to 6:00pm.  The USA will handle payment for these clinics.  If interested you need to communicate to David Ward and he will give you further information.   Field Maintance:  (David Ward) David reported we are still on track to take the U-8 and lower fields out of commission for the Fall season.  Please do not use the fields after August 24th weekend.  Chuck Woodcock advised that it is better to seed the end of August and again in October.  All games will be played at Oakdale and Urbana Elementary Schools.    Newsletter update/status:  (Carole Thompson) Look for the next newsletter in your homes the end of August.  Remember if you want an article in the next newsletter please let Carole know.    Summer Pickup Games:  (Paul Young) David reported that the Tuesday evening summer pickup games are doing very good.  Numbers have been pretty good.  The games will continue through end of July then the fields are needed for practice.    New Field Status:  (David Ward) There was no report.    UK Elite Camp for Summer 2003:  (Donna Pike) Donna reported that the camp went well.  There were around 25 kids at each session.      Shooting Wall for lower field:  (David Ward) Dave will call Bob Hajjar about the status of the wall.   Practices/Requests:  (David) Please get your practice requests to David as soon as possible.  The practice schedule will be placed on the Urbana Web site as soon as David has it all figured out.    Equipment/Requests:  (David) Please email David your equipment request as soon as possible.  If you are coaching a new age group this season please turn in your old equipment so that David can take inventory.  All first aid kits also need to be turned in to be checked and replenished.     Sponsors:  (David Ward) The new sponsorship coordinator is Filomena Thompson.  If you have anyone interested in sponsoring please get the information to Filomena.  At this time we have six returning sponsors.   4 v 4 Annual Tournament:  (David Ward) This years 4 v 4 tournament will be held on August 23rd with a rain date of August 24th.  The entry fee will be $40.00 for teams not playing for the USA.  All USA teams will not be charged.  The participant awards this year are Beach Balls.  This event cannot run without plenty of volunteer help.  If you are interested in helping please email David Ward.    Moving Meeting to another night:  (David Ward) Our vice president can no longer attend Tuesday evening meetings due to another commitment.  The members in attendance voted that the meeting would be moved to Wednesday evenings for the remainder of the Fall season.    New Business:  (All) David reported that the Youth National Championships will be held the week of July 23rd to July 27th at the Soccer Plex in Germantown.  As soon as David hears of any game times he will post them on an email to the group.  Veteran coaches jackets will be given to Donna Pike and David Cromartie.   The meeting was adjourned at 8:32pm.
