Ijamsville Methodist Church

USA President David Ward called the meeting to order at 7:32 pm.

Minutes:  Last meeting minutes were not present at the meeting.

Registrar’s Report:  (Karen Selwyn) Karen reported that there are 360 players. Please let Karen know ASAP if players drop off of teams. There are waiting lists for most age groups/genders.

Treasurers Report:  (Al Selwyn) Al reported that we have $18,235 in the treasury (and still a number of bills to pay).

Vice President’s Report (Andy Keen)  No report.

Secretary’s Report (Donna Pike) Not present.

Coaches Education:  (David Ward)  10 USA coaches attended the NSCAA classes provided at UHS on 8/8-8/10. Passing the Regional course were Robert Bubello, Herbert Avila and Ken Mittereder. Passing the Advanced Regional course were David Ward, Peter McDonald, Andy Keen, Al Selwyn, Bob Coss, Paul Young, and Bob Hajjar. Congratulations coaches and thank you for taking the time to improve your coaching so as to benefit all of the players in the Association.

Coaches Clinic: (David Ward) David held a clinic on shooting and shooting games for USA coaches on 8/17. Bob Coss, Andy Keen, Ken Mittereder, and Steve McKinley attended and enjoyed playing Slam and lots of other shooting games.

Field Maintance:  (David Ward) David will reseed the old goalie boxes (now behind the goals) on the Upper Field the weekend of 9/6,7. Chuck Woodcock will suggest a plan of attack to repair both the Lower and U8 Fields.

Pictures: (Jamie Dunn/David Ward) David reported that Jamie had completed the picture schedule and all picture forms are in the shed. Please contact the photographer, Bill Adkins, at (301) 694-6442 if you need more forms or need to change your picture date/time. Pictures start on Monday 8/25.

Uniforms: (David Ward) All U-8 and older uniforms (U-6s get t-shirts on 9/6) will be ready and placed in the shed Friday morning (8/22) for pick up. All teams are in the silver jerseys this year.

Newsletter update/status:  (Carole Thompson) Look for the next newsletter in your homes the end of August/early September.  Remember if you want an article in the next newsletter please let Carole know.

Field Lining: (Andy Keen) We have completed the initial lining of the Upper Field. U-14 teams will be assigned weeks to paint the field for the remainder of the season. We will do the initial lines on the U-8 (UES) field and U-10/12 (OMS) field Labor Day weekend. U-8 teams will be assigned weeks to paint the U-8 field at UES for the remainder of the season. Al Selwyn volunteered his team to line the U-10/12 field at OMS this season since he has practice there every Thursday.

Incident Reports: (David Ward)  Coaches need to fill out incident reports (in their first aid kit as well as in their coaches packet) whenever there is an injury that requires more than just immediate first aid. In addition, incident reports need to be filled out for behavioral incidents as well.

Game Protocol: (David Ward) David reviewed the game protocol memo with the coaches who were present. An email copy will be sent out prior to the first games on 9/6.

There are game balls and game flags (red flags) for the Upper Field for U-14 games. U-10/12 games at Oakdale MS will need to supply their own game ball and set of flags since we have no storage space at the school. U-8 teams can use the red game flags from the shed or their own practice flags. U-8 teams should use one of the coach's soccer balls as the game ball.

Game Conduct: (David Ward) David reviewed the game conduct memo. This will be emailed to everyone prior to first games on 9/6.

Coaches Game/Picnic: (Donna) Not present

FASA Update: (Donna) Not present

UHS Nights: (David) All players wearing their Urbana jersey will be given free admission as well as a $1 concession coupon to both the 9/16 UHS girls game vs. Middletown and the 9/22 UHS boys game also vs. Middletown. We'll see if we can get coaches wearing their polos admitted for free as well.

New Fields Status: (David) Friends Meeting School has contracted an engineering firm to discuss the creation of a full-sized field at the school. USA has offered to support this effort in return for practice/game time on the field.

Shooting Wall for Lower Field:  (Bob Hajjar) No report

Sponsors:  (David Ward) Filomena Thompson did a tremendous job and rounded up 21 sponsors for the Fall 2003/Spring 2004 seasons. Every team but one will have a sponsor this fall. Thank you Filomena!

4 v 4 Annual Tournament:  (David Ward) This year's 4 v 4 tournament will be held on August 23rd with a rain date of August 24th.  The entry fee will be $40.00 for teams not playing for the USA.  All USA teams will not be charged.  There was a discussion about changing the format to an inhouse Dutch-style 4v4 tournament in future years. This will probably happen starting in Fall 2004.

Filling Holes in New Goals: (Al Selwyn) Al will do his magic and fill up the holes in the new goals on the Upper Field in order to keep bees out of the goals.

New Business:  (All) None.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:34pm.
