Introduction

This document contains each of the U10 age group training sessions for the Fall 2005 season. An outline of the training sessions is given first followed by the details of each training session. The Urbana Soccer Association Training Curriculum Volume 3 - Training U10s manual contains more information on the overall U10 training curriculum and the details for all of the activities listed in the training sessions presented here.

Week 1 - Mobility Skills

Theme            Mobility Skills

Focus Area    Running forward/backward

# of Players    8 groups of 8-12 players

Equipment     1 ball per player, disc cones, corner flags (8), pinneys

Time               75 minutes



NOTE: Lots of running today. Make sure players get lots of water breaks (especially if it's hot)

Mark out eight 25x30 fields.

Warmup

Ballnastics
3 minutes

Foundation, Step Ups, Under the Bridge
For each, do once and count touches. Beat your score on the second try.

Juggling
2 minutes

Thigh/catch, thigh/thigh/catch, foot/catch, foot/foot/catch. Most in 30 seconds. Beat your score on the second try.

Capture the Flag
5 minutes

You can play where they must dribble back to their square or run back with ball to their square.

Demonstration
5 minutes

Demonstrate forward running form stressing arm movements.
Have players skip to practice arm movements.
Have player do "butt-kicks" where they try to kick themselves in the butt with their heel as they run.
Have players do knee raises where they hold their hands out and try to hit their hands with their knees as they run.

 

Demonstrate backward running form stressing arm movements and quick feet.

Crackers/Crunch
10 minutes

Do a few games where they run forward.
Do a game where they run backward.

Crows and Cranes
10 minutes

 

City Game
15 minutes

Work on forward and backward running.

Can players demonstrate proper arm movement for sprinting?

Clean Up

Team Cone Pick Up - When you say "Go!", players on each of the 4v4 teams have to pick up one cone (can only get one at a time!) and then put it in team's pile. Team with the most cones wins.

Week 2 - Mobility Skills

Equipment     1 ball per player, disc cones, corner flags (2 - to use as movable goals), pinneys

Demonstrate shuffling and crossovers

Play games where must run forward/backward/shuffle/crossover.

Small-Sided
Game

4v4 Movable Goal
10 minutes

Have all players do a somersault, cartwheel, etc. to celebrate a goal (some sort of agility skill).

Wrap Up

2 minutes

What is difference between shuffling and crossover?

Clean Up

2 minutes

Pairs Cone Pick Up - all in pairs with each pair holding onto a pinney. Each pair picks up two cones (1 per player) and puts in their pile. Each player must hold onto pinney entire time. Biggest pile wins.

Week 3 - Ball Mastery

Focus Area    Dribbling moves - Zico, Spin, Screw, Fake Kick

Equipment     1 ball per player, disc cones, 8 corner flags, pinneys

Time               75 minutes

Hospital Tag

Taggers do not have a ball - everyone else does.

Warmup

Foundation, Step Ups, Under the Bridge, Push-Pull, Rollover

Body Part Dribbling
5 minutes

Call out body part for first few rounds, then just point.
Last player to touch ball with selected body part must do a silly task.

Main
Activities

Freeze Tag - Zico
3 minutes

Demonstrate Zico
Play 1-minute game with Zico as "safe" move.
Pick a new Mr./Mrs. Freeze and repeat.

Beat the Dummy
5 minutes

Train Spin, Screw and Fake Kick

Criss Cross
5 minutes

Do games with Zico, Spin and Screw as move to do when reach edge.

Knock Off
15 minutes

Stress for players to try Zicos, Spins, Screws

Get Outta There
15 minutes

Use 4 goals to stress changing of direction. Stress for players to try Zicos, Spins, Screws, Fake Kicks

Small-Sided
Game

4v4 Line Soccer
20 minutes

One point awarded for stopping ball on the line.
One point awarded for successfully doing a Zico, Spin, Screw, Fake Kick

Wrap Up

2 minutes

What 4 moves did we learn today? See if players can demonstrate.

Clean Up

2 minutes

Pick up all cones and must carry back on your head while dribbling.
