Urbana Soccer Association Monthly Meeting
Tuesday, August 15, 2006
Ijamsville Methodist Church
Attendees: David Ward, Herbert Avila, Al Selwyn, Karen Selwyn, Andy Keen, Sean Lee
USA President David Ward called the meeting to order at 7:45pm.
Minutes: The July meeting minutes were approved by Al Selwyn and seconded by Herbert Avila.
Registrar’s Report: (Karen Selwyn): 447 players have registered. There are waiting lists at almost all levels. Coaches are strongly urged to let the registrar know if any players quit. Park and medical waivers need to be collected in a more efficient manner. Suggestions are welcome. Karen to talk to registrars of other programs to find out what they do. Possible solution is to print out completed form from internet registrations; give unsigned forms to coaches in their packets and have them get parent’s signatures.
Treasurers Report: (Herbert Avila): There is $41,465.42 in the Operating Budget. Deposits for uniforms and Brian Wall kickoff week have been paid. The Field Fund has $8,866.25. To date, 13 sponsor payments have been received.
Vice President’s Report: (Harry Hurst): Not present.
Secretary’s Report: (Sean Lee): Nothing to report.
Coaches Education: (David Ward): MANDATORY coaches meeting 8/24/06 @ 7:30 at the Urbana Park pavilion.
“E” license class – 8/26 & 8/27 @ Myersville ES
Sportsmanship – 8/16 @ 7:30 or 8/26 @ 10:00 at Myersville ES
Equipment: (Herbert Avila): All equipment ordered & received; except Kwik goal nets.
Merchandise - (Harry Hurst): Backpacks are still on back order.
Field Maintenance: (Rod McNiff/David Ward): Field lining is scheduled for either 8/19 or 8/20. David to check with Rod. New nets will also be installed on upper filed goals. David to call Mid Atlantic to set a date for WKMS resurfacing. Depending on the rainfall situation, the date might get pushed later in September.
U10 Fall 2006 Kick-Off Week (David Ward): Brian Wall will attend September’s association meeting to discuss the camp. Overall impression was that the camp was fun, but lacked a certain amount of technical awareness. There was an expectation for more technical improvement and an increase in game awareness. The board agreed that going forward with a U12 & U14 program is a good idea. Need to discuss technical level and coach staffing with Brian next month. The timing of the camp also needs to be discussed. There will not be enough room at UES to have all three age groups playing at the same time. Need to discuss possibilities of a split session with Brian.
Sponsors (David Ward): Currently there are 28 committed sponsors.
PlayDays (David Ward): Dutch 4 v 4 scheduled for 8/26. Play Day games scheduled for 8/27. Detailed e-mails from David will go out to the association.
Summer Pickup Games (David Ward): Adult games were well attended. Last session will be 8/28. Youth/HS game attendance was extremely variable. Need more support from the U19 girls.
Coaches Game and Picnic (Sean Lee): The Urbana Soccer Association Coaches Game and Picnic will be held on Labor Day weekend; Sunday, September 3rd. David to send out an e-mail to the coaches.
Youth Nights at UHS (Karen Selwyn): The boy’s night is tentatively scheduled for 9/19 and the girl’s night is tentatively scheduled for 9/21. D1 U12 teams will line up with the teams and go out for warm ups on the field. Karen is checking with the high school to see if these dates are good, they are not set dates
Uniforms (David Ward/Kelly Dingee): Uniforms will be in no later than 8/24. They will be placed in the shed and should be worn during Sunday’s Play Day. It was mentioned that due to the sponsor’s logos on the back of the shirts, only uniforms from the current season should be worn during games.
New Business: (All)
UHS boys will be practicing all season at UES. UHS girls might be practicing at Urbana Park. David to contact UHS coaches to ensure no unwanted lines are painted on the playing fields.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
