October 21, 2007   Minutes – October 16, 2007 Meeting     Next meeting - Tuesday November 20, 2007 at 7:15   In attendance were the following:   David Ward                 Harry Hurst Al Selwyn                  Brian Wall Mark Keating                 1.         Minutes Approval: No minutes from September have been submitted. 2.         Registrar's Report: Not present 3.         Treasurer’s Report: Not present Al will investigate getting our EIN reactivated.   4.         Vice-President’s Report: No report.   5.         Secretary’s Report: Not present.   6.         Coaches Education: ’E’ – December 1,2 in Columbia. Contact Linda at the MSYSA state office – 401-987-7898. Check www.msysa.org for more details and more courses. 7.         Equipment Report: Not present.   8.         Merchandise: Harry gave sponsor gifts to David for distribution. There is a new jacket style from adidas. Does not come in traditional youth sizes but has adult XS and adult XXS. Harry will submit sizing information to Karen and David for the web site and online registration. 9.         Field Maintenance: BOD approved measure to increase field maintenance budget to $11,500 to pay for upcoming field maintenance at Urbana Park and WKMS. Urbana Park goal moving – Sunday October 28 at 4:00. We will put away all of the goals at Urbana Park. Urbana ES and WKMS goal moving – Saturday November 17 at 10:00. We will start at Urbana ES and put those goals away followed by WKMS.   10.     Fall 2008 Kick-Off Week: Discussions were held with Brian Wall on how to continue the improvements to Kickoff Week. The comments for the U10 sessions were overwhelmingly positive. It was thought that the U12s and U14s would benefit from some emphasis on defending (1 and 2 player defending) as well as for some small-sided tactical emphasis (combinations, proper support, etc.). Fall 2008 Kickoff Week will be July 29-August 2, 2008   11.     Bylaws Change: The bylaws change to eliminate playing up was enacted unanimously. Starting with Spring 2008, players will be prohibited from playing in an older age group (with some exceptions – see the new bylaw). Bylaws can be found online at www.urbanasoccer.org.   12.     Tournaments: All U8 teams are playing in the November 10 Mt. Airy U8 Tournament at Twin Ridge ES. All U10, U12 and U14 teams are playing in the FCYSL tournament the weekend of November 3,4.   13.     Participation Awards: Participation awards will be placed in the shed on Sunday for coaches to pick up and distribute. U6s will distribute participation awards at their last training session on Saturday October 27.   14.     Pictures: Pictures for U8 and older teams have been placed in the shed for coaches to pick up and distribute. U6 pictures were distributed by coaches last Saturday. Coach’s plaques are included in the distribution. Sponsor plaques and gifts (for corporate sponsors) will be delivered by David over the next few weeks. 15.     New Business: This was not discussed at the meeting, but I’ll add it here. The Urbana District Park is scheduled to begin construction in Spring 2008. A small-sided (60x80) and a regulation (80x120) soccer field are planned for the first phase of construction. Hopefully, we’ll be playing on those fields in Spring 2010 (and Fall 2009 if we are lucky).   Meeting adjourned at 8:45 Submitted by David Ward (for Clif Carey)
