Introduction

This document contains each of the U10 age group training sessions for the Fall 2007 season. An outline of the training sessions is given first followed by the details of each training session. The Urbana Soccer Association Training Curriculum Volume 3 - Training U10s manual contains more information on the overall U10 training curriculum and the details for all of the activities listed in the training sessions presented here.

5 minutes

Stress changing directions instead of just dribbling away at speed.

In pairs. Instead of getting a point for dribbling through a gate, you get a point for passing through a gate to your partner.

10 minutes

Start with unlimited touches. See if they can be successful if MUST use two touches. Just work on technique today.

Week 5 - Mobility Skills

Demonstrate forward running form stressing arm movements.
Have players skip to practice arm movements.
Have player do "butt-kicks" where they try to kick themselves in the butt with their heel as they run.
Have players do knee raises where they hold their hands out and try to hit their hands with their knees as they run.

 

Demonstrate backward running form stressing arm movements and quick feet.

Rock-Paper-Scissors

Work on tagger since we're doing mobility and not dribbling.

Have all players do a somersault, cartwheel, etc. to celebrate a goal (some sort of agility skill).

Mark out eight 25x30 fields. Put up 4v4 goals..

Each player writes his/her name on an index card.

 

Cards will be grouped by school – Urbana ES, Centerville ES, and a third group for all of the rest.

 

Coaches pick 4 or 5 cards from the appropriate group and that is their team. Then they pick a country to represent.

World Cup 4v4
60 minutes

Do a World Cup 4v4 – 4 round-robin games and then a championship round. All games are approximately 10 minutes in length.

Dribbling Races
10 minutes

Have players race in pairs by dribbling the ball the length of the field. The winner of each race is the player whose ball and body cross the line first.

 

If you have 12 players, you’ll have 6 races at one time (races 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6). The winner from race 6 moves up one to race the loser of race 5. The winner from race 5 moves up one to race the loser of race 4. And so forth. In race 1, the winner stays and the loser moves to the bottom to race the loser of race 6.

 

The goal is to stay in race 1 for as long as possible.

Get Outta There
15 minutes

Instead of playing that you must shoot to score a goal, play that you must dribble across the goal line to get a goal.

 

This should give many more opportunities to practice dribbling at speed.
