Introduction

This document contains each of the U10 age group training sessions for the Spring 2007 season. An outline of the training sessions is given first followed by the details of each training session. The Urbana Soccer Association Training Curriculum Volume 3 - Training U10s manual contains more information on the overall U10 training curriculum and the details for all of the activities listed in the training sessions presented here.

Training Outline

The following table outlines the theme of each of the age group training sessions for the Spring 2007 season.

Foundation, Step Ups, Under the Bridge
For each, do once and count touches. Beat your score on the second try.

Juggling
2 minutes

Thigh/catch, thigh/thigh/catch, foot/catch, foot/foot/catch. Most in 30 seconds. Beat your score on the second try.

Body Part Dribbling
5 minutes

Call out body part for first few rounds, then just point.
Last player to touch ball with selected body part must do a silly task.

Freeze Tag
3 minutes

Demonstrate Switchback
Play 1-minute game with Switchback as "safe" move.
Play 1-minute game with Pull-the-V as "safe" move.
Pick a new Mr./Mrs. Freeze and repeat.

Beat the Dummy
5 minutes

Train Switchback and Pull-the-V (work on both feet)

1v1 Keepaway
5 minutes

Point for a Switchback or Pull-the-V

Get Outta There
15 minutes

Use 4 goals to stress changing of direction

Stress for players to try Switchbacks and Pull-the-Vs

Small-Sided
Game

4v4 Line Soccer
20 minutes

One point awarded for stopping ball on the line (or dribbling over the line)
One point awarded for successfully doing a Switchback or Pull-the-V.

Wrap Up

2 minutes

What 2 moves did we learn today? See if players can demonstrate.

Paint the field
5 minutes

Using inside/outside dribbling technique only, use your ball as a paint brush and paint your entire field.

 

Work on right and left foot

Dribble the Line
5 minutes

Start by having players dribble any line they want on any part of the field. After they get the hang of it, make it a competitive relay.

 

Work on right and left foot.

Beat the Dummy
10 minutes

Switchback, Pull-the-V, Matthews

Run the Gauntlet
15 minutes

Stress Matthews and using the outside of your foot.

Small-Sided
Game

4v4 Line Soccer
20 minutes

Extra point awarded for successful Switchback, Pull-the-V, Matthews
Extra point awarded if can shield for 5 seconds.
