1. Registrar's Report: All currently registered players will be receiving mail-in registration forms for Spring 2002 in the first week of January. There will also be in-person registration on Saturday January 19, 2002 and Saturday January 26, 2002. Both in-person registrations will be held from 9:00 AM - noon in the foyer (side entrance) at the Urbana Fire Hall. Registration for Spring 2002 closes on February 1, 2002. Any registrations received after that date are subject to a $10 late fee and a potential waiting list.
Please remember that late registrations put a real strain on the Association, and make it very difficult for us to make teams, assign coaches, etc. Registration closes February 1, 2002. Please mail in your forms prior to that date.
For those who played in the Fall, registration fees will be $20 less for the Spring (no uniform, insurance, administration, etc. fee to pay) - $45 for U6, $55 for
U8-U12, $60 for U13-U14. For those who did not play in the Fall, you will be subject to the additional $20 fee (except U6) - $45 for U6, $75 for U8-U12, $80 for U13-14.
Fall 2001 players will only be given new socks for Spring 2002. They are expected to wear their jersey/shorts from Fall 2001 in Spring 2002. If your child has outgrown or worn out their jersey/shorts, a new set can be purchased for $20. Please include that money with your registration check and make a note to that effect on the registration form (along with the proper sizes).
Please watch the web site (http://www.netstorm.net/~rward/urbanasoccer) for more details.
2. Treasurer’s Report: Spring 2002 budget was reviewed and approved.
3. Vice-President’s Report: Not present.
4. Secretary’s Report: Not present.
5. Coaches Education: There is an 'F' course being offered at St. Michaels HS on 12/29 as well as a 'D' course (also at St. Michaels HS) from 12/27 - 12/31. Graham Ramsay will be teaching a Tactics Course at St. James School in Hagerstown 1/4 - 1/6. Check www.msysa.org for more details and more courses.
Coaches Night - the next Coaches Night will be Tuesday January 8, 2002 at 7:30 at the Cracked Claw. Each coach will go over his or her three favorite practice games/drills. Al Selwyn will host the meeting.
We are working on offering both CPR and Sports First Aid training to all coaches prior to the start of Spring 2002 season. More on this later.
All coaches are encouraged to continue their soccer education with these valuable courses. The Association reimburses all coaching course costs. Also, remember to take a look at the local library - it has some very good books and videos available.
If you have any of the videos given out at the October coaches meeting, please get them back to David when you get a chance so that we can distribute them to other coaches.
6. Field Maintenance: We put 60 more pounds of seed down in the penalty boxes on the Upper Field and on the bare spots on the Lower Field. The seed has germinated and sprouted. We will re-seed the penalty boxes on the Upper Field the beginning of March to give the seed time to grow before games start in April.
7. Big Hill Update: No report.
8. Newsletter Update: No report.
9. Indoor Soccer: The first indoor session is finishing up at both The Goal and the Sportsplex. Session 2 starts in January for those who are interested in playing January/February. If you haven't gotten your team in yet, most age groups are full.
10. Bylaws Committee: We completed our draft of the bylaws at our second bylaws meeting on 12/6. Donna is finishing typing them up. We hope to get them reviewed prior to and then ratified at our January meeting.
11. Spring 2002 Practices: It is likely that we will not be able to practice at UHS this spring due to renovations on the stadium and football practice fields. Practice space will be extremely tight. Practice locations are tentatively: Upper Field - Urbana Park, Lower Field - Urbana Park, on the hill at Urbana Park, Urbana Recycling Center, Urbana Fire Hall, Urbana ES, Spring Ridge Community Park, and Windsor Knolls MS.
12. Urbana District Park: The Master Plan Committee voted for the items to be placed in the park. Everyone should be relieved (pun intended!) that rest rooms were the #1 vote getter. Voting wasn't completed as two groups were not present. Lights and the various types of athletic fields were high on the priority list as were paved and unpaved trails.
The consultants will now take the voted upon item list and draft up three different proposals for the park. Then the real work begins as we'll need to pick a proposal and adopt a buildout plan.
NOTE: It will be several years before any fields are available at UDP as planning is just in its initial phases.
13. New Business: Karen mentioned that she had received some calls concerning improvements for the U6 program. We decided to make this the main topic at the January meeting (especially since Max was not present).
At the suggestion of a parent, the parking lot at Urbana Park will soon be one way. This should prevent the free-for-all that happens especially after games and improve the safety of our children.
