Minutes for the Urbana Soccer Association meeting   October 21, 2008 at the Urbana Regional Library (Frederick County Public Libraries does not promote or endorse the views of the program sponsors or presenters.)     Attendance:  David Ward, David Grimaldi, Herbert Avila, Harry Hurst, Peter Dhima, Nathalie Herman, John Garza, George Coppit, William Coppit, John Fitzgibbons, Anh-Tuan Nguyenkhoa   The meeting was called to order at 7:20P.   1. Minutes Approval (All) Approved last meeting’s 2. Registrar's Report (Terri L.) No report 3. Treasurer's Report (Herbert) Operating fund at $3335.96; only 3 sponsors submitted recently [$500] 4. VP's Report (Harry) Nothing to report 5. Secretary's Report (Anh-Tuan) Nothing to report 6. Coaches Education (David) D License – 11/23,23 12/6,7 Lexington Park, MD 20653 7. Equipment Report (David) Coaches not returning for the Spring need to return equipment [labeled] to shed. Shed key can be mailed to David at 12218 S. Debkay Ct., Monrovia, MD 21770. 8. Merchandise (Harry) David W. – hold off purchasing additional gear until FCF<>USA decision 9. Field Maintenance (David) 10/26 – Goal moving at 4:00 (UPK/UES/WKMS). Put all goals away and lock game goals to fences. 10/27 – Fields closing for Vertadrain/seed/fertilize Upper/Lower/WKMS #1 10. Peter Dhima appeal (Board) Avila – Inquired about the bumping incident Grimaldi – Was there a threat? Dhima – Did not initiate contact Fitzgibbons – Lenny pointed finger at Peter; Lenny was belligerent Dhima – Lenny's wife approached Peter; started incident; 2 LUYAA parents were proactive on the field / coaches’ box; USA parents stayed in appropriate area Herman – LUYAA parents were proactive with calls; complained about on field plays by USA players Fitzgibbons – Things started bad; USA coaches handled situation well initially; Lenny was more confrontational and started incident Herman – Lenny, LUYAA parents upset from the start Dhima – Allowed calls to LUYAA even though incorrect Grimaldi – Circumstances aside, did any USA coach or parent cross the line per USA by-laws? Herman – Did not see contact other than the handshake Dhima – Accepted USA sanctions but saw that Lenny was not abiding by LUYAA sanctions; wants to get fair treatment Avila – Concerned about the credibility of Lenny/LUYAA accounts G. Coppit – Observer point of view: Peter was restrained considering the situation Garza – Second hand viewpoint but astonished that incident happened Fitzgibbons – Questioned legitimacy of Lenny's account; a physical incident would have been noticeable by USA parents Dhima/Herman – LUYAA assistant was nice and not confrontational Grimaldi – For the future, we needed more timely feedback from USA parents 11. Desi Silezar incident (Board) U12D3 Coach Jim Strnisha submitted incident report Physical play by opposing team; USA player was injured Desi yelled at opposing coach to control physical play Referee sent Desi off field but no red card   12. FC Frederick (David) Strawman club proposal review David G. – We need to get more collective discussions on the proposal Coaches may approach parents and teams for feedback 13. Field Fee Raise? (David) Fund is currently ~$10K short; fields require a lot of maintenance $12K went into the Kick-Off Week – we want to keep this incredible training Raise field maintenance fees from $15 to $25 per season Need to look into other revenue streams to support maintenance Considering the amount of traffic, the fields look pretty good 14. Sportsmanship Problems and Solutions (David) All U8+ coaches must go to FCYSL sportsmanship. Two sportsmanship parents from each team who must also go to the class (and are sportsmanship liaisons for that team).   15. Winter Training (David) Brian Wall will do one hour per week if someone can line up gym space. 16. Tournaments (David) U10+ - ALL TEAMS in FCYSL for November 8,9 U8 - ALL TEAMS in DNL Festival at Carroll Manor on 10/25 FCYSL U10+ schedule on 10/22 17. Participation Awards (Kim) Distributed in the shed   18. Pictures (Cindy) Distributed in the shed   19. New business (All) Nothing new for this meeting 20. The meeting was adjourned at 8:55P.
