Minutes for the Urbana Soccer Association meeting May 20, 2008 at the Urbana Regional Library (Frederick County Public Libraries does not promote or endorse the views of the program sponsors or presenters.)   Attendance: David Ward, Herbert Avilla, Anh-Tuan Nguyenkhoa, Clif Carey   The meeting was called to order at 7:35p   1)     The minutes from the April 2008 meeting were not available.   2)     Registrars Report (Terri LaBonte):  a)     32 players already registered for Fall 2008 season   3)     Treasurers Report (Herbert Avila):  Will email balances to secretary Not for profit status report: none   4)     VP’s Report (Harry Hurst):  No report FCPS field requests for Fall 2008: all submitted   5)     Secretary report (Clif Carey): nothing to note   6)     Coaches Education (Dave Ward): a)     USSF License Courses (via MSYSA - www.msysa.org) Register via MSYSA - email and phone listed below. You pay the registration fee and the Association will reimburse you once you complete the course. i)        F - appropriate for new coaches for U8 and younger - none ii)      E - appropriate for U8 and older (required for U10 and U12 D1 coaches) (1)   July 28-29 SAC in Ellicott City (2)   July 12-13  Maryland SoccerPlex, Boyds (Germantown) MD (3)   June 14-15 Davidsonville in Edgewater (4)   August 9-10 Queen Anne’s County ISC in Centerville iii)    D - appropriate for U12 and older (required for U14 D1 coaches) (1)   July 18-19-20 & 25-26-27 at River Hill High School in Clarksville MD iv)    National Youth: (1)   Aug 8, 9, 10 & 15, 16, 17 Maryland Soccerplex, Germantown MD (Boyds)   7)     Equipment (David Ward): Non-returning coaches please return all equipment and first aid to the shed (with coaches name on them)   8)     Merchandise (Harry Hurst): no report   9)     Field maintenance (David): a)     Mid-Atlantic Turf rolled fields and fertiliaed (UPK and WKMS) in April b)     Seeding, etc. for Lower Field scheduled for Thursday June 5.  After June 5 Lower Field will be closed.  Tryouts scheduled after June 5 will be relocated to Windsor Knolls   10)  Dutch 4v4 Tournament (David): Suggestions for the future.  After some discussion the topic was tabled. 11) Play Day Games (David): Suggestions for the future – discussion suggested some matchup changes, possibility for full length games between Coed-Girl D1 and D2 pairings.  Discussed the possibility of inviting selected outside teams to participate.  No decisions made.   12)  Participation Awards (Kim): T-shirts for U10’s and up, trophies for younger groups.   13) Pictures (Terri S.) Due in shed on May 27   14)  FC Frederick (David):  David gave a summary of the meeting between FC Frederick and USA about possible merger/partnership/collaboration.  This led to extensive discussion on the subject.   Another meeting is to be scheduled with FC Frederick to discuss the new items brought up in the discussion.   15)  D1 Tryouts (David):  Tryout coaches to hold meeting on May 28 at the pavilion a)     First 2 weeks of June- schedule is on website. b)     Remind all tryout players that showing up for tryouts does NOT register them for the Fall 2007 season. c)      Remind all players that they will not hear from their coach until the middle-end of July about whether or not they made the Division 1 team.             16)  Soccer Camps (David): a)     Frederick   County (UHS) - June 23-27 b)     UK Elite - July 7-11 c)      Kickoff Week ("mandatory" for U10/12/14) - July 28-August 1   17)  Coaches Game and Picnic (David): Saturday June 7 at 4p.  Tina Nguyenkhoa is organizing   18) Patches (David): Please turn in a list of awardees so that they can be listed on the USA website.   19) Tournaments (David): a)     MSC 4v4 – Monday May 26 b)     MAYAA U14 – Saturday June 14 c)      Mid-Atlantic Cup – Saturday/Sunday June 14/15 d)     BASC Tournament – Saturday/Sunday June 21/22 e)     McDonald’s SoccerFest 4v4 – Saturday/Sunday June 21/22   20)  Officer Elections: a)     President (David Ward) b)     Secretary (Anh-Tuan Nguyenkhoa) c)      At Large (Clif Carey)   21)  Summer Pick-up games (David): a)     Adult and Kid games (WEDNESDAYS at Urbana Park Upper) all start on Wednesday June 18 at 7:00PM.   22) New business (All): Discussion about how to obtain signed waivers from the parents more efficiently.  Suggestions are welcome.   Meeting Adjourned at 8:55p
