NSCAA/USYS Registration for all Coaches (David Ward) David wants to register all Urbana coaches with either the NSCAA or USYS. NSCAA is $50 per coach and provides insurance (not needed, as this is provided by MSYSA), Soccer Journal Magazine and a Newsletter. USYS is $25 per coach and provides Success in Soccer magazine and newsletter. It was voted to register Urbana coaches in the February for USYS. This will provide Urbana coaches with additional reference material for coaching.
License Requirements for D1 Coaches (David Ward) Approximately 80% of the Urbana coaches at the U10 level and above have gone to training and received a license. It has been suggested that Urbana have license requirements for our Division 1 coaches: E License for U10, D License for U12 & U14. Coaches will be required to have the appropriate license to coach unless an exception is approved by the board. Current and new coaches will have a grace period to obtain the appropriate license. David will write up a bylaw change for a vote at the next meeting.
Field Maintenance: (Rod McNiff/David Ward) The Association has hired Scott Schweitzer (Fitz Landscaping) to cut the fields down to 1 inch and spread 19 bags of fertilizer. This will be done on Friday, October 28th. We will also need to slit seed the fields. David is requesting volunteers from the U14 and U8 coaches. The upper field will be slit seeded on Saturday, October 29th at 3:00 p.m. and the lower field will be done on Sunday, October 30th at 9:00 a.m. Parks and Rec will aerate the fields on October 31st.
Tournaments (David Ward) There will be three tournaments being hosted this season. Columbia Recreational tournament began Sunday, October 16th and continues through Sunday, October 23rd. Mark Keating’s team won both their games and Al Selwyn’s team won their first game and tied their second. Both teams are at the top of their bracket. David Ward’s team lost both their games but they had fun! All U10, U12 and U14 teams are registered for the FCYSL end of season tournament on the weekends of Nov. 5th & 6th or Nov. 12th & 13th. All U8 teams are registered for the MAYAA tournament scheduled for Nov. 12th.
Merchandise - Sweatshirts? (David Ward/Harry Hurst) Harry will look into adding sweatshirts as merchandise for Urbana soccer. He will be refunding money for anyone who purchased sleeve ties. These were never received from the vendor.
Participation Awards (Brenda Rayno) Brenda will be picking up the trophies and will be dropping them off in the shed on Wednesday evening, October 19th. They will be available for pickup on Thursday, October 20th. The trophies were not unpacked because they were individually packaged to avoid breakage. Coaches need to report any problems with the trophies to Brenda, if needed.
Pictures (Charlotte Jordan) Pictures have been distributed to all coaches. Plaques will be coming out shortly.
UHS soccer playoffs (David Ward) Playoffs for the soccer teams will start a week from Friday. David is looking for the schedule and will email it to the Association. We need to support the high school players!
Refrigerator Magnets (Harry Hurst) Harry and Stephanie are working on designs and pricing for magnets to be sent with registration packets in December. A design was reviewed and additional feedback will be solicited before ordering.
PentaLeague Comments (U8) There has been more goal scoring and ball touches with this format. David watched some of the games and there were between 10-49 attacking touches on the ball in a 10 minute period!
FCYSL Comments (U10+) Good seasons were reported so far.
New Business: (All)
David will send out emails to request Post Mortem meetings with the U6, U8 and U10 coaches to discuss training sessions and future plans.
