Battery-operated devices can be a wonderful thing for you when you are going camping or hiking. You do not have to worry about being near electrical outlets to keep the device going. One thing about battery-operated devices is that they can sometimes be used underwater. This is great for people who want to go scuba diving and take pictures or even hikers who tend to drop things in puddles on rough terrain. There are a few things you need to know about using these types of devices before you go out on your next adventure.Confused? <a href='http:// www.indiavision.com/news/article/lifestyle/406532/oz-man-proposes-to-girlfriend-while-scuba-diving/’>Here ‘s a little help .

One thing you need to understand is that there are a variety of different devices out there for you to use. You need to make sure that the device is battery-operated first of all and then you need to ensure that it is waterproof. A device that is waterproof will be able to work and function even if it is underwater. If you cannot find a device like this, there are bags and outer protective sleeves that can be put onto your own electronic to keep it safe if you take it underwater or simply drop it in a puddle that would have otherwise ruined it.

Back in the day, before you could get hundreds of channels through sites like www.tvbydirect.com, there really wasn’t much on and the country became intrigued by the plight of the Energizer Bunny.

Yes, THAT bunny. You know. He was the pink one with the sunglasses beating a drum and powered by an Energizer battery – the Energizer Bunny.

The bunny starred in all kinds of commercials selling batteries. He raced the Road Runner from Looney Tunes, he squared off against Darth Vader (do I really need to say what franchise he hails from?) and he even defeated the Wicked Witch of the West. The commercials were really a battle of cultural icons at this point and no one saw it coming when the Energizer Bunny was put in some serious danger.

They were a series of commercials that each served as mini-episodes in a continuing plot. A conspiracy had been hatched by an evil consortium to permanently remove the Energizer Bunny from the equation. Luckily, our hero endured with his superior battery life. The commercials were a joke, needless to say, but lots of batteries were sold as a result.

Nowadays, the Bunny enjoys some much deserved R&R. Sure, he still makes his cameo appearances in battery commercials, but he is more of an icon than a character, these days.

Below are five environmentally friendly ways to use batteries.

Replace one at a time
If you spend in a battery-tester, you are able to detect which batteries don’t have charge left and just substitute those. A number of batteries are available with a battery-tester on the battery cell itself.

Hold heavy metal
In the majority conditions, finding a product that contains small amount of hazardous materials is highly ecologically friendly. In view of batteries, hazardous ingredients boost your chances of searching recycling alternatives. This helps explain it more. If your batteries encompass elements, for instance lithium, lead or mercury, there will be better worth to a recycler who might reprocess these metals.

Laptops aren’t for laps
Maintaining the battery cool shall help make longer its lifespan. Making use of your laptop on a soft surface (for example your lap) limits air flow and in reality heats up your battery. You may as well spend in a cooling pad if you desire to utilize a notebook on soft surfaces.

Maintain your batteries cool
You might have heard that placing batteries in the freezer or fridge shall make them stay longer. While this might be the case, you shall have to allow the batteries thaw ahead of using them to eliminate condensation in your instruments. Regardless, you ought to avoid stocking up batteries in warm places, since they might leak fluid.

Wait for good reception
When your mobile phone has small reception, it employs extra battery power to search for tougher signals. Waiting for superior reception shall permit your mobile phone battery to last longer.

Mention the word battery and most people will know exactly what you are talking about. From remote controls to cell phones, our lifestyle is powered with batteries. Here are a few common batteries you may encounter in your home.

Most any television, DVD player and VCR has a remote. These remotes use the small AA size battery. In addition to remote controls, AA batteries are used in most portable devices. In the days before MP3 players, portable CD and cassette tape players used the AA battery. Is this new to you? Catch up here

C cell or C batteries are used in flashlights and some basic toys. The C cell battery is considerably larger than the AA battery, so it can support larger electronic devices. Children’s toys needing batteries use C cell batteries. Some flashlights use C cell batteries.

D cell or D batteries are larger than the C cell battery. D cell batteries are used in flashlights and large portable radios. Because of their size and weight, large heavy duty flashlights use D cell batteries. Before the advent of LED technology, D cell batteries powered the strongest cylinder style flashlights. The larger battery meant longer life and brighter field of view.

There are other, more specialized batteries for cameras and camcorders, but the average homeowner will replace the batteries mentioned much more frequently.

You would think that saving the environment one battery at a time would be enough of an incentive to have every customer rushing out to buy rechargeable batteries. Apparently saving the planet is not enough, the batteries have to be convenient too. If they are not super convenient, then saving the planet comes secondary.

Pros

One of the biggest advantages to using rechargeable batteries is the fact that there is no need to worry about disposal or the effect batteries will have in landfills. The second advantage to rechargeable batteries is that once you buy a few sets of batteries and the recharging station, you can have batteries charging for when they are needed. Batteries do not have to be replaced often, but when they do there is a charged set ready and waiting.

Cons

A big disadvantage to rechargeable batteries is that they take some planning ahead. If you do not have a set of batteries charging or already charged and waiting, you will have to wait a few hours for a charged-up set to become available. You will also have to buy a few sets of batteries so that you can be using one set while another charges up on the docking station. This might be inconvenient since the cost of the rechargeable batteries are slightly more expensive than the disposable variety.

You thought this was good? Brace yourself: Infinite Life for Thin Film Batteries?

It’s important to properly dispose of used batteries because they are filled with reactive chemicals that are harmful to our environment. If nickel-cadmium batteries are disposed of improperly it can be very damaging to the environment. The battery will corrode and causes the cadmium to leach into the ground or water. Lithium batteries left to corrode can cause fire to erupt and contaminate the ground.

Older household batteries like the C battery, can contain mercury and should be carefully disposed of just as the other types of batteries. Household batteries now contain alkaline, which is much safer. Battery companies state that these can safely be thrown away in the trash. Many people now use rechargeable batteries, but these have a life span as well and will need to be disposed of eventually.

The best way to dispose of the batteries is to recycle them. There are many places that will take used batteries, including some larger retail stores. Local recycling centers will usually take them at their hazardous waste facilities.
Many communities have set up battery drop off sites, or check out if yours has set aside a few days a year for special pick up that includes hazardous materials. Take a look here to learn more: Nickel Cadmium batteries were the first on the market for cordless power tools
